El Cortijo Caturra Washed
History
This lot was produced by smallholder farmers living in the village of El Cortijo in Buesaco, Nariño, Colombia, including José Salas, José Paz, José Pusil, and Carlos Pinta. Farms in this area sit between 2,100 and 2,300 meters above sea level, and are characterized by a medium-humid climate and mountainous terrain. Producers primarily grow Caturra variety coffee, which is benefitted by the farms’ terrain and altitude.
This lot of Caturra coffee underwent Washed processing. Each contributing producer manually harvests ripe cherries which are then pulped and fermented with other farmers’ harvested coffee in a ceramic tank. The fermented coffee is fully washed and dried on raised beds for 25 days.
We experience El Cortijo as a juicy and bright coffee. Notes of orange, red apple, and sugar cane in the cup.
