History

We have been working with this coffee since 2019 and we are so happy to have it back!

Yirgacheffe translates to ’land of many springs’ and is ideal terroir for producing coffee for its elevation and natural springs. The area is home to many multi-generational small-scale landowners with farms as small as a few hectares.

Grown organically and certified by the Rainforest Alliance, this coffee embodies a commitment to both environmental and social sustainability. Farmers cultivate it alongside enset, beans, and avocado, a practice that not only provides shade and improves biodiversity but also ensures food security for local communities. At the processing site, two 90,000-litre water tanks support efficient water use and help maintain consistency during fermentation, while a purpose-built 30-by-16 metre warehouse preserves quality and creates valuable local employment.

Chelchele is produced by smallholder farmers working with the Tadesse Desta Business Group, whose focus on traceability and fair premiums ensures that the benefits of quality are shared with the people who make it possible. The result is a coffee that is not only exceptional in the cup but also deeply connected to the wellbeing of the land and the farmers who cultivate it.

We are experiencing another amazing year of Chelchele with bright notes of peach, red berries and floral notes of jasmine.
